Feasibility Studies for Carlisle Bay and
Folkestone Park and Marine Reserve

1998–2000
Feasibility
studies assessed the long-term sustainability of tourism development
in two coastal parks on the island of Barbados. AXYS managed
a team of Barbadian, Canadian and other consultants to complete
the assessment and planning studies. The team also worked closely
with staff of the Environmental Special Projects Unit and the
Coastal Zone Management Unit (Ministry of Environment) throughout
the project.

Feasibility Study for
Harrison’s Cave and its
Associated Network of
Integrated Nature
Tourism Attractions
Government of Barbados
1998–2000
The
feasibility study was designed to assess the long-term
sustainability of tourism development at
Harrison’s Cave, the most popular inland
attraction in Barbados, and to evaluate the
feasibility of developing an integrated nature
tourism area linking Harrison’s Cave with
other nearby nature-based attractions.

Ecosystem Overview for Bowie Seamount Candidate Marine Protected
Area

As
part of the process to evaluate the candidacy of Bowie Seamount,
located 180 km west of the Queen Charlotte Islands, as
a Marine Protected Area, AXYS prepared a comprehensive Ecosystem
Overview. The intent of the Ecosystem Overview was to
identify baseline ecological conditions and requirements for
further research thereby enabling better planning and managing
of human pressures.

Selected Parks and Recreation Developments
BC Parks,
Parks Canada,
& City of Burnaby
AXYS has done a variety of work in environmentally sensitive
areas. These case studies describe four such projects:
- review and
development of an environmental impact assessment
(EIA)
policy
for the BC
provincial
parks system
- development of a park management plan for the Burnaby Mountain
Conservation Area in the city of Burnaby
- park planning/land use process study as part of a national
task force to address environmental impacts and sustainable tourism
issues in Banff National Park
- BC Parks Level 2 Impact Assessment regarding a proposal
to operate submersible tours at Helliwell Marine Park
