Environmental Site Assessments

AXYS has conducted numerous pre- and post-development environmental site assessments (ESA) in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. Detailed site assessments of soil-landscape, vegetation, and surface and groundwater resources are used to provide our clients with baseline information and recommendations for project planning, mitigative planning and reclamation/remediation planning. AXYS has conducted numerous Phase I, II and III environmental site assessments for a variety of clients in both agriculture, and oil and gas sectors.

Land Reclamation

AXYS has much experience in all facets of agricultural land reclamation. This includes conducting environmental inventories and assessments, developing reclamation plans, supervising reclamation activities and evaluating areas to determine reclamation success. Project experience includes assessing equivalent land capability, planning and supervising excavations, sourcing suitable soil replacement and developing re-vegetation strategies. AXYS consistently employs cutting-edge land reclamation strategies to develop balanced reclamation solutions for our clients.

Contaminated Site Remediation

AXYS has been involved with numerous site remediation projects in the agricultural and industrial sectors. Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments (ESA) are conducted to determine the nature, degree and extent of contamination prior to development of Phase III remedial action plans (RAP). AXYS applies sound science to provide innovative solutions for the remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater. Current project experience includes numerous site remediation projects at former agri-chemical facilities, as well as land-farming hydrocarbon-impacted agricultural soil.

Soil-Landscape Resource Inventories

AXYS has extensive experience in soil-landscape resource inventories, commonly referred to as soil surveys. Soil-landscape resource inventories are used as the basis for land capability classification and land-use planning. Project experience includes numerous reconnaissance and detailed soil-landscape resource inventories for a variety of clients and projects. AXYS has conducted soil-landscape resource inventories for general land-use planning, agricultural capability assessment, irrigation development, effluent irrigation and pipeline development.

Sub-Surface Environmental Exploration

AXYS Agronomics possesses the expertise and technology to effectively conduct shallow subsurface environmental exploration, including site explorations, soil investigations, groundwater sampling, well installation monitoring, and clay and sand prospecting.

The sub-surface exploration equipment is truck-mounted on a GMC 3/4-ton truck and is hydraulically powered by a 25 hp Isuzu diesel engine. This equipment is capable of environmental resource investigation activities with minimal obstruction and impact to the surface and includes the following features:

• Drilling to a depth of 30' (9 m) using 3" & 4.5" borehole augers
• Direct push intact core sampling
• Differential GPS sampling
• Wire pull for rapid extraction during deep sampling (12' per pull)
• Angle drilling

Land Capability Classification

AXYS provides a wide range of land capability classification services for the agricultural industry. Land capability classification provides planners and managers valuable information on land resources to allow for sustainable land management planning.

Environmental Impact Assessments

AXYS Agronomics provides support for both small and large environmental impact assessments (EIA). AXYS Agronomics’ knowledge and experience in the agro-environmental field, including expertises in soil-landscape relationships, soil and water quality, and land capability, have proven to be a valuable asset to AXYS Environmental Consulting Ltd. and our clients.

Environmental Monitoring

AXYS conducts environmental monitoring of soil, vegetation and water resources to assist clients in developing sustainable projects and achieving and maintaining regulatory compliance. AXYS consistently develops environmental monitoring programs that bring value to our clients through allowing them to meet today's stringent environmental regulations in a cost-effective manner. Irrigation Planning and Management

Irrigated crop production is a growing industry on the Canadian prairies. AXYS assists clients in irrigation planning to develop sustainable irrigation projects. From small to large projects, AXYS conducts feasibility studies and land suitability assessments, provides best economic and agronomic routing (BEAR) analysis for pipelines, employs the area-block planning and management approach, conducts baseline environmental studies and ongoing environmental monitoring, and offers on-going support for irrigation projects.

Manure Management

AXYS supports clients with manure management planning and assists in ensuring clients achieve and maintain regulatory compliance. The Professional Agrologists (P.Ag.'s) on staff can assist clients with all of their manure management needs. AXYS also conducts environmental site assessments for livestock operation sitings and provides baseline environmental sampling for new operations.
