Geographic Information & Database Management

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are sophisticated tools that allow georeferenced data (any data that can be identified by a geographic location) to be: collected, stored, analyzed, retrieved, displayed and mapped.

Database Management Systems provide a method for organizing, cataloguing and analyzing collections of related information.

The power and flexibility of Geographic Information and Database Management systems are ideally suited to environmental applications where large numbers of complex interrelated pieces of information are usually georeferenced. By combining these tools, scientists, engineers, managers, politicians and the general public are able to better comprehend complex issues and make more informed decisions.
