Facility Decommissioning and Reclamation

We conduct both pre- and post-drilling site assessments for oil and gas drill sites, as well as coordination of abandonment and reclamation activities. Expertise includes predisturbance site assessments, drill mud testing and land spreading of drill fluids, sump testing for mix/bury/cover suitability, reclamation certificate site investigations and surface abandonment, vegetation, reclamation and detailed site assessments.Back to top

Selected Experience

AXYS has provided inspection and audit services for linear projects such as hydrocarbon transmission and gathering lines, electrical transmission and distribution lines, and transportation corridors. Our staff has been involved with the construction and/or post-construction audit of pipeline projects, ranging in size from NPS2 (50mm) to NPS48 (1220mm), including projects in Canada, Argentina, Chile and Thailand.

Our clients are governments, upstream oil and gas companies, pipeline companies, commercial property managers, real estate investment trusts (REIT) and First Nations.

Project Highlights

Contaminant Assessment and Remediation, Underground Storage Tank Assessment and Site Remediation

Provided delineation of subsurface hydrocarbon contamination, and advised on and managed a site remediation program of a gas station near Morley, Alberta.

TransAndean Pipeline Transportation System, (Argentina & Chile): Environmental Site Assessment and Acquisition Audit

Conducted an environmental assessment/ audit of oil tank storage and Transandean pipeline transportation systems that cross the Andean mountain ranges. The project scope included assessment of associated oil tank storage and pumping systems, and the 424 km long 16-inch oil pipeline built in the late 80's.

Novacorp Pipelines Ltd: Due Diligence Acquisition Audit of Hamburg and Porcupine Hills Assets

Retained to complete a corporate due diligence assessment and assessment of environmental liabilities associated with Novacorp assets. Consisting of 360 km of condensate and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) pipelines and associated facilities and infrastructure at Hamburg and Porcupine Hills, Alberta.Back to top

Sikisika First Nation: Environmental Assessment and Subsurface Contaminant Evaluations

Phase I and II assessments of various facilities including several landfill sites located on the Sikisika First Nation lands were conducted. Extensive subsurface sampling and monitoring well installations were completed to assess the extent of contamination present and evaluate inherent risks.

Southern Community Traditional Baseline Foods Study

This ongoing First Nation project will identify traditional use resources and food gathering areas as well as provide a baseline of information regarding trace metal concentrations in traditional and medicinal foods.

Spill Site Remediation and Management, Pipeline Release

Contracted, in collaboration with AXYS Agronomics, to provide an assessment of a pipeline release in southern Manitoba. The purpose of the assessment was to delineate spill impacts and provide recommended actions to address spill cleanup.

Numerous Pipeline Construction and Oil & Gas Developments: Environmental Inspection and Assessments

Provide environmental inspection during construction and implement reclamation plans for major pipeline construction projects. For environmental liability protection, pre-site and post-site assessments are also performed for oil and gas developments and new drilling operations.Back to top
